Update - June 2
Update - June 2
An update on the 2019-2020 GBHL games - the season remains paused due to the travel restrictions as well as the social distancing measures that are in place. However, there are some positive news of schools beginning to reopen later this month and the easing of border restrictions to Shenzhen. Once these restrictions have been removed and it is safe again to travel, we will restart the GBHL games with a reasonable notice period. Our plan remains the same of completing the season before starting the new season. As we wait to restart this season, we have been actively planning ahead for the 2020-2021 GBHL season. Games will remain on Friday nights and Saturday mornings in Shenzhen. We will be renaming our divisions to align with Hockey Canada - U9, U11 and U13. More information will be announced in the near future. Currently, there is a high degree of uncertainty regarding tournaments around the region due to air travel and countries opening up at different times. As a result, we feel the GBHL will be the only viable elite hockey option available in southern China for at least the first half of the season. We thank you for your patience and support.

Update - March 6
Update - March 6
Dear Teams, The coronavirus COVID-19 situation has affected everyone’s daily life and at this moment, students in Hong Kong and Shenzhen are still not back at school yet. In this case, the GBHL can only wait until the situation improves before we can re-plan the schedule of the postponed games. The league is fortunate to have a great rink partner in Shenzhen-Coastal City. Their understanding of the situation and with the support of the teams, we will be able to reschedule the GBHL games at a time when it is best for everyone. We will continue to keep all of you updated on the situation. Do keep safe and remember to keep in good hygiene. Thank you for your understanding.
Update - Feb 14
Update - Feb 14
Dear Teams, Players, We are continually monitoring the situation regarding the coronavirus in the Greater Bay area. Yesterday morning, the Secretary for Education in Hong Kong extended school closures until March 16. As a result, we will be postponing the GBHL games that are scheduled in March. These games will be rescheduled once the situation is under control. We hope to get the kids back on the ice playing hockey and being active as soon as possible. However, the safety and health of our young children and youth remain our top priority. We will continue to monitor and review on a 2 week basis and update families accordingly. We thank you for your understanding during this challenging period. Stay Safe!
Update - Feb 5
Update - Feb 5
Dear Teams, As the HK Government has restricted travel across the China border due to health safety reasons, the GBHL has also taken precautionary measures to postpone the U8 games scheduled for the weekend of Feb 21-22. This is in addition to the games that are postponed from the 2 previous weekends for U10 and U12. All of the postponed games will be rescheduled at a later date. In addition to the border restrictions, we are also monitoring the HK Government's lead in regards to school closures which is now extended until early March. Should the school closures continue to extend, we will also postpone additional games. We thank your support and will continue to provide additional updates. Regards, Keith Fong GBHL Commissioner
Update - Coronavirus Prevention
Update - Coronavirus Prevention
Jan 28 - Dear Teams, Due to the situation regarding the recent outbreak of the coronavirus, the HK Government has suspended all schools until Feb 17. Therefore, the GBHL has decided to postpone the scheduled games for the weekend of Feb 7-8 for U10 and Feb 14-15 for U12. These games will be rescheduled at a later date. Should the suspension of the schools be extended beyond Feb 17, the GBHL will also consider to postpone additional league games. These actions are necessary for the safety and health for everyone that is involved in the GBHL. All the coaches and managers will be informed of the rescheduled dates. If there are any further changes or updates, we will inform everyone. Thank you for your understanding. - Keith Fong GBHL Commissioner
